It was just an amazing journey for the Japanese horse trainer Mr. Katsuhiko Sumii of only 5 years in the horse racing game to come over here just to have two runners in the race was something he could only dream about let alone actually having his horses Delta Blues and Pop Rock trained to the minute and run 1-2 in what we call the race that stops a nation!
In November 2006 the Melbourne Cup stopped two nations, Australia and of course Japan, winning jockey on Delta Blues, Yasunari Iwata had tears streaming down his face as he made his way back to the winners enclosure simply pointing to Delta Blues and speaking in the little English he could "Super Horse - Thank you Australia"
With Australian Champion jockey Damien Oliver on the Stable mate Pop Rock who finished a gallant second Damien done only what he knows best after the finish line and showed his true sportsmanship and congratulated Yasunari with a HIGH FIVE!!
