We all know what a super Mare Makybe Diva is but on the 27th August 2005 she yet again stunned the racing fans of Australia by an amazing first up win over 1400m in the Memsie Stakes held at Caulfield racecourse in Victoria.
The dual Melbourne Cup winner was sent out at 7/1 fourth favourite against a field of some of Australia's greatest sprinters with the likes of Regal Roller - Super Elegant - Renewable - Roman Arch - Barely A Moment & the old war horse Le Zagaletta while the critics and tipsters had Regal Roller & Super Elegant a mile on top of their selections saying that it would be an almost impossible task for Makybe Diva to win first up over 1400m against these types of powerhouse sprinters!
The great Mare Makybe Diva can NEVER be underestimated and is capable of doing almost anything on a race - track in which she went on to show. At the top of the home turn Makybe Diva was well out paced by the speed freaks Regal Roller and Super Elegant where she was 2 lengths last at the 400m mark.
In the Radio Sport 927 Champion Stayer Award Makybe Diva (GB) polled 144 votes and also pocketed the TAB Most Popular Racehorse Award.

At the 200m mark Regal Roller kicked 2-3 lengths clear to Barely A Moment with Makybe Diva a further length away until champion jockey Steven King hit the EXPLODE button and away she went!!!!! Within 3-4 strides the great Mare had collared the tear away Regal Roller & Barely A Moment to win the race in great fashion.
