One of the greats in Harness Racing Trained and mostly driven throughout his amazing career by John Justice. Shakamaker had an amazing 46 wins, 18 seconds, 4 thirds from the champions 81 race starts.
Shakamaker racked up a huge $2.29m in prizemoney. However, this does not include his runs in Christchurch (NZ) ID series in 2003.
Of course, his biggest win was the 2000 Interdominion but he was a champion from the first time he stepped on the track.
As a 2yo his feature wins included the Tatlow final, and the Australian Pacing Gold Final.
As a 3yo he won the SA, Qld and WA Derbies, the Vicbred Sires Final, the RC Simpson Sprint and the APG final. He also ran 2nd in the Vic Derby, and 3rd in the Australian Derby.
At 4 he came back from a spell to win the Vicbred final for 4yo EG and then went straight into ID 2000, with a second in the Victoria Cup after sitting outside of Christian Cullen. Of course history tells us that he won the final with a brilliant barnstorming finish. He then went on to run 2nd in the Chariots of Fire and then a week later won the Ben Hur in awesome fashion coming from near last at the top of the Harold Park straight.
In 2001 he won the Tasmanian Pacing Championship, the Smoke Free SA Pacing Cup and numerous other features.
Despite his win in the 2000 series, his Interdominion campaign in the 2002 series at Harold Park was his greatest performance and but for his regular driver being suspended, he would have become the first horse since Village Kid to go undefeated through a series. He won all of his heats in tremendous style and with replacement driver Brian Gath in the sulky ran a gallant 2nd after being pressured all the way.
He won at every metropolitan track in Australia and was just a fantastic racehorse, now serving his time at Mountain View Stud.
