BART Cummings added another chapter to the legend when he won the 2009 $2.5 million Group 1 BMW Caulfield Cup (2400m) for the seventh time.
2008 Melbourne Cup winner Viewed took out the race after a freakish ride from Brad Rawiller.
It was Cummings' second quinella in the Caulfield Cup - his other was in 1980 when Ming Dynasty and Hyperno finished first and second.
It was his first success in the race since Let's Elope in 1991. His first Caulfield Cup was in 1966 with Galilee.
Nonchalantly after the race Cummings pointed out that Viewed "had beaten my own horse."
The victory gave Rawiller his first win in the race at only his second ride in the event . Viewed's victory came after one of the great rides of all time in a Caulfield Cup.
On jumping Rawiller snagged Viewed back to the rear on the rails and remarkably that is where he stayed for the entire race.
Viewed was third last with 1000m to go but remarakably gained rails runs for the rest of the race.
Before the turn Rawiller had taken Viewed to sixth and then he waited for a run behind Allez Wonder which left the fence and he pushed through to take the lead.
It was another success for the Singapore-based owner Dato Tan Chim Nam who has raced horses with Cummings for more than 40 years and phoned the trainer after the race.
Cummings, 81, praised the ride of Rawiller saying it was perfect as he did not go round a horse.
"He saved many lengths by going on the inside and the other jockeys assisted by letting him through and he got away with it,'' Cummings said.
Rawiller was estatic after the win saying it was one of the highlights of my career.
"To win a Caulfield Cup is one thing. To win for the greatest legend ever in racing is another,'' Rawiller said.
