Patrick Murphy
Patrick was born at Condell Park. Within six months his family moved to take up residence on the Canterbury Park Racecourse where his father Lindsay was the Track Manager.
With some 300 horses in training at Canterbury Park back then, Patrick would awake each morning to the sounds of horses going through their paces, so it is no surprise Patrick has chosen a career in the saddle.
Whilst studying for his Higher School Certificate in 2003, Murphy started his apprenticeship with champion trainer Guy Walter. Like all good apprentices, Patrick was sent to the country to learn and develop his craft. He spent time with Robert Price from Nowra, Brett Bellamy in Coffs Harbour and Mark Mason at Tamworth.
In the short time Patrick has been riding, he has ridden some 48 winners and boasts a 70% winning record for Rosehill trainer Tim Martin, a statistic any jockey would be proud of.
Patrick has joined leading jockey management company ThoroughManagement and is now establishing himself in the very competitive Sydney Apprentices ranks. Under the astute guidance of Guy Walter, Patrick will definitely be a name that Sydney racing will hear a lot more of!
