Recently, Mark Skaife equalled Peter Brock's longstanding record of 37 round wins by taking the honours in the second round of the V8 supercar championship at Pukekohe in New Zealand.
For the past three decades, two names have dominated the Australian touring car landscape – Peter Brock and Mark Skaife. With 37 Australian Touring Car Championship victories each, plus 14 Bathurst 1000 victories and eight ATCC titles between them, Brock and Skaife have established themselves as the most successful drivers this country has ever seen. The brash young Brock took Australian motorsport by storm when he won his first round in 1973 and for the next two decades dominated the local scene as no other driver had ever done, first with the Holden Dealer Team and later with the Holden Racing Team.
As his distinguished career wound down at the end of the 1997 season, he handed the baton to Skaife who joined HRT in 1998 and has since amassed 30 round victories in just eight seasons, including winning an amazing seven of 13 rounds in 2002. Holden heroes through and through, the pair have become synonymous with the brand and while Skaife chases another victory to set in stone his position as Australia's most successful touring car driver, in retirement Brock continues to be a proud ambassador for Holden.
