A classic Australian Olympic event is now a classic Australian Olympic collectable.
On Friday, September 15, 2000, the eyes of the world were fixed on a tiny flame borne aloft by a tiny ethereal figure, shimmering in white. Australian athlete, Cathy Freeman, representing past and present Olympians, lowered her torch to the waters surrounding her, igniting the Olympic cauldron, and sparking a spirit of unity amongst Australians.
She became the first woman to light the flame, a celebration of 100 years of women's participation at the Olympic games.
But for many Australians, it meant much more than that& It meant the clarity of self-realisation, the redefinition of identity, and the freedom of oneness, between all of its peoples.
It sparked a pure exhilaration in being Australian and in being part of these Games, our Games, and truly, the Athletes Games.
It signalled the start of an incredible 16 days of fierce emotions, incredible triumphs and heart stopping moments that bound a Nation together as never before. These are moments which every Australian will want to savour with their family and friends for generations and now have a permanent place in the culture and history of our country.
Now, the Australian Olympic Committee is proud to present for the first time, and only time, a magnificent limited issue collectable celebration of this defining Australian event&
