October 4, 2009 is a day that created history in so many ways … and established the Melbourne Storm as the most successful club of the sport's National Rugby League era.
The best of the decade or one of the greatest team ever..... Call the Melbourne Storm what you will but call them the 2009 NRL Premiers.
Their 23-16 victory before 82,538 at ANZ Stadium provided the Storm with their third premiership in their first 12 seasons as an entity – a simply amazing feat.
After becoming the first team to appear in four grand finals since Parramatta from 1981-84, the Storm warded off a late flurry from the Eels, after leading 22-6 midway through the second half. A field goal from the irrepressible Greg Inglis sealed the victory.
