As David Beckham's free kick bent past Sydney FC's defensive wall and nestled in the top-left corner of the net, tens of thousands of fans at Telstra Stadium and more than 1.4 million watching on television around the nation jumped out of their seats in delight.
It was the moment they had been waiting for since it was announced that the Beckham's LA Galaxy were coming to Sydney.
Beckham's goal brought the biggest cheer of the night from the sell-out crowd of 80,295 - the majority of whom had attended to watch the world's best known footballer in action.
